PR While Sweating My Thorns Off!!

Today was the 3rd Annual "Sweat Your Thorns Off Virtual 5k", hosted by The Boring Runner.  As usual, the kids wanted to part of the fun, so they each got their own bib taped on before we headed to the gym.  It's just too damn hot to run outside.  My hat's off to those of you who still run outside in this heat.  I'll do my sweating indoors for now.

I really wanted to PR during today's run.  I've felt for a while now that I'm capable of running faster than I have been, but I just haven't really pushed myself to do it.  More often than not, I end up practically bumping up against the front of the treadmill as I'm running.  Pretty sure it's time to bump it up a notch.  So, today I started my run at the pace where I usually average or finish my run, then increased at the 1.5, 2.5, 2.7 and 3.0 miles.  As luck would have it, Seamus fell off the slide today in the kids center at the gym.  This never happens. But today, at 2.72 miles, they came in to tell me that Seamus fell and wanted his Mommy.  lol  So I took a short break to go gives hugs and kisses and then jumped back on the treadmill for finish my last bit.  All in all, it was a great run!  I've had 3 pretty shitty weeks in a row now or little to now workouts (as opposed to my usual 3-5/wk) and the few I did get in, totally sucked. 

So woo-frickin'-hoo for a great run and PR!!!

*I'd like to add that I'm a total idiot.  I have some sort of mental block with the actual distance of a 5k.  I continue to program my treadmills/Garmin for 3.2 vs. 3.1 mi, so I had to adjust my numbers ever so slightly.  What is it about running that makes you obsess of a tenth of a second?! lol
