Curtains, The NRA & Rolling Over!

I've been struggling to find curtains that I like for the nursery. I bought a set of brown panels, but #1 they were too sheer and let in too much light and #2 they just weren't girly enough. :) So I brought home another set that were lined, but didn't like the color! Geez. Finally, I found some cute sheers that I liked and decided I would just buy the blackout lining and add it myself. Seeing as this was something I'd never done before, I expected there to be some mistakes and there were. There are a few things about the finished product that I'm not crazy about. But, overall they turned out pretty cute and certainly sufficient for now.

Here are some pics of the process and finished product. I took them this morning and with the sun shining in, some of the pics are a little dark.

Laying them out to cut the lining to match.

I used Heat Bond since I don't sew.

One of the things I was unhappy with; You can see the color difference where the adhesive strip is under the fabric. Craig assured me nobody would be able to tell once they were up and that I was just being anal. He put it much more delicately though. ;)

Once they were attached, I had to trim the excess lining.

Testing out the first panel to see if you can see the adhesive strip. I can. Oh well.

The colors of the flowers are exactly the same as the flowers I put on the doggie prints.

We also had a visitor this weekend! Val, Craig's best friend since high school, was in town for the NRA Convention held here in Phoenix. He came by to meet McKenna (and run out for a beer with Craig) on Sat evening, but McKenna had crossed over into over-tired mode and was NOT feeling social. :( We tried to have a little fun and get some pics anyway. Don't worry she was never crying for more than a few moments, Mommy snatched her back quickly to calm her down. We decided to stop by the convention on Sunday to see the sights (and people watch) and hoped that McKenna might be feeling a bit more social. No such luck. She just had a bit of a rough weekend. *shrug* I guess it's par for the course, but I had hoped Val would have a chance to see her like we see her every day... smiley and giggling. Hopefully next time, and before she's 12. ;)

Here are some pics from Val's visit.

The initial meeting.... not going so well.

A brief moment of silence. It didn't last.

I've been trying to get a video of McKenna rolling over for some time now. She did it for the first time when she was just 8 weeks old, but really started doing it consistently (and freaking out less during tummy time!) in the last month. So I finally got some video of her doing it today; Once to the right and once to the left... one with a little burp thrown in for good measure. ;) As you can hear, we were made sure to let her know how excited we were.
